Treatment Plan Overviews Aggression and Violence

Major Goals
1. Increased understanding of risk factors underlying aggression and violence
- Develop vocabulary to describe angry feelings
- Identify cues and symptoms that he is experience anger Link those feelings to specific triggers and areas of vulnerability
- Develop a short-term action plan for dealing with anger
- Accept that his anger is causing him problems
- Link cues and symptoms of anger with triggers and with harmful coping behaviors
2. Decrease extreme risk for violence by addressing specific risk factors
- Identify issues of anger from the past and resolve or let go.
3. Increased understanding of risk factors underlying passive-aggressive behavior
Passive-aggressive behavior may underlie certain violent acts.
- Increased awareness of personal risk factors Identification of personal risk factors.
- Acceptance that these risk factors are causing him/her problems.
- Take initial steps to reduce vulnerability to those risk factors Counselor may need to do this in individual counseling.
- Action planning for the future
4. Decrease extreme passive-aggressive behavior
Also decrease risk of acting out in passive-aggressive ways.
- Identification of personal risk factors.
- Acceptance that these risk factors are causing him/her problems.
- Take initial steps to reduce vulnerability to those risk factors Counselor may need to do this in individual counseling.
